Professor Peter John Drumm (1898-1952) was the first professor of biochemistry at University College, Cork, He was a man of extraordinary ability and an outstanding chemist and biochemist. His research output was considerable. All of this was achieved against a backdrop of political and economic upheaval and war, both in Ireland and abroad. His death at a relatively young age was a tremendous loss to his academic colleagues and students. His achievements deserve to be recorded and evaluated.
