Summary: In the summer of 1963, Leo Curran requested Professor John Carroll - Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture - to put a simple question to President Tierney of UCD. Why is Leo Curran being dismissed? The answer that came back was "because the President does not like the colour of your eyes". Leo provides an insight into life in the village of Oranmore in the period 1930 to 1960 accompanied by some glimpses of his education through first, second and third levels. In October 1955, the author was invited to become a junior academic in UCD only to be faced with threats of dismissal eight years later for the reason given above. Judge Brian Walsh chaired a Committee of Enquiry that blocked that dismissal in 1963. This led Leo to feel that the matter had ended although the head of his Department, Professor John Carroll, advised otherwise. The detail is in the pages provided here.
