In the mid-1760s the artists of Ireland formed themselves into a society and began exhibiting together. In 1765 they built a top-lit octagonal room on Dublin's South William Street which was the first purpose-built public gallery for the exhibition of paintings in either Ireland or Britain. This book tells the story of these remarkable pioneering artists and the building they constructed.
