Vol. I. 1916-1925 -- vol. II. 1926-1930 -- vol. III. Ireland 1918-1925.
When the first volume of Tom Jone's Whitehall Diary was being prepared it was decided that the entries concerned with Ireland formed such an important and coherent narrative that they should be published in a separate volume rather than left interspersed among the entries on other topics.
Volume III covers the years 1918-25. The greater part of this narrative is concentrated on the making of the Irish Treaty in 1921 and the negotiations which took place in London between the leaders of both sides - Lloyd George and Churchill, Arthur Griffith and Michael Collins among them - both there are also many fresh insights into the making of British policy towards Ireland in the troubled years after the end of the First World War.
