George Cornwallis-West, described by the late Randolph Churchill as the handsomest man of his generation, was born of a family who could claim a long descent when they fought with the Black Prince at Crecy and at Potiers. His mother was a famous Victorian beauty and wit. His sisters, stars in the Edwardian galaxy, married respectively one of Germany's wealthiest princes and England's richest duke.
... When he was twenty-five he married Jennie, the glamorous American widow of Lord Randolph Churchill and mother of the ambitious young politician, Winston Churchill. When he was thirty-nine he married the celebrated actress , Mrs Patrick Campbell, and played Doolittle to her Eliza while on tour with Pygmalion in America.
